Jordanes was a sixth-century Eastern Roman historian of Gothic descent, who composed the ‘Getica’, the only extant comprehensive narrative detailing the early origins, migrations and kingdoms of the Goths. Jordanes adapted his material from the now lost 12-volume history by the Roman statesman Cassiodorus, who served in the administration of Theodoric the Great. Infusing his work with his own unique viewpoint, Jordanes sought to reconcile Gothic heritage with Roman allegiance. Despite centuries of debate over its historical accuracy and biases, Jordanes’ work remains an indispensable primary source for understanding the collapse of the Western Roman Empire and the dawn of the early Middle Ages. Delphi’s Medieval Library provides eReaders with rare and precious works of the Middle Ages, with noted English translations and the original texts. This eBook presents Jordanes’ complete works, with illustrations, informative introductions and the usual Delphi bonus material. (Version 1)
