Rhoda Broughton

The Welsh author Rhoda Broughton was noted for her sensational fiction, winning the sobriquet “queen of the circulating libraries”.  She was a long-time friend of Henry James and was also noted for her rivalry with Lewis Carroll and Oscar Wilde. Our forthcoming edition will feature the most comprehensive collection ever assembled for this late Victorian author.

Gerrit Dou

A student of Rembrandt, Gerrit Dou was a Dutch Golden Age painter, whose small, highly polished paintings are typical of the Leiden fijnschilders. He specialised in genre scenes and was noted for his trompe-l’œil paintings and candlelit night-scenes, employing strong chiaroscuro. Our upcoming monograph will provide the complete paintings and essential reading for all lovers of Baroque art.
